Reflection:

A reflection representing my thoughts and notions of the UWRT 1101 course during the fall semester of 2014. The reflection reviews the work done by Mr. Brown along with the material provided during the course. The reflection reviews components such as literacy and knowledge within the course. How the knowledge was taken in by the student and what I enjoyed most/least about the course. The reflection was chosen because it gives the reader an understanding of the course from which the material material came from. The reflection allowed me to review the course as a whole.

Meme & Reflection:

The meme depicts my experiences growing up in New Hampshire. The points of view express those commonly inferred by New Hampshire natives. The reflection goes into further detail about the meme itself. I believe the meme gives an accurate description of how people view New Hampshire residents. The meme allowed me to dive into my creative side and reflect on where it is I come from.

Anansi Boys Essay & Reflection:

The Anansi Boys Essay & Reflection expresses the work that was done to review the book "Anansi Boys." The essay describes how the story related to me and what I thought of the story. The review describes how the author turned an ancient story into a modern-day read. This reflection was required to be in the portfolio. The book delivered an excellent read for me and allowed me to understand an older tale with a more modern feel to it.

Coraline Essay & Reflection:

The Coraline Essay & Reflection discusses a few prompts discussed in class within my group of three. The prompts included how Coraline's "What I Have" speech influenced the book, and how the other's mother's appearance altered the book. A brief reflection on the book is presented with my opinion on the novel along with my opinion on the other mother assignment. I placed these two pieces in here because they were required to be in the portfolio. I was able to recap the novel and express my opinion on it.

My Words:

The "My Words" project dives into my desire to pursue a career in Disney Imagineering. It expresses my desire to pursuit a literacy in engineering and how that degree could lead me to become a Disney Imagineer. This piece reminds me of why I am working so hard in college and was a joy to write due to my passion for the topic. Every time I am having trouble, I can remind myself of the literacy I want to obtain.

Out of Our Trees:

The "Out of Our Trees" project presents a written and visual portion of my family’s past. It dives into the history of the last name "Indingaro" and the origins of the name. With a family tree as a visual, the reader can explore the vast variety of names that resulted in my family. The project delivers an accurate depiction of my family and allows me to understand who I am and where I came from.

Blog Link:

The blog link is a link that can lead the reader to the blog of the author. The link was required and allows the reader to view all my work leading up to this assignment.

Wild Card #1:

Wild card #1 is a visual representation of a decision matrix I used in an engineering class. The decision matrix is used to determine an appropriate design moving forward. The design with the highest score is deemed the best option and is used by the design team. I chose this wild card because it is a clear indication of the factors that go into an engineering design. It elaborates on the first step of the design process and shows how complex one design can be before it is even constructed. This design is what I work with on every project and helps me to provide the best design possible moving forward.

Wild Card #2:

Wild card #2 represents a visual of a championship ring that I won during senior year baseball season. From Goffstown, NH, I (along with my team) was able to capture our first baseball state championship in over ten years. It was a memory I will never forget. To be able to play the game I love with the people I love is something very special to me. I gained an amazing memory from that season. Something I will never forget. This ring represents all the amazing times we had over the course of that season

Dear Andrew Letter:

The Dear Andrew letter is a letter to Mr. Brown expressing a little bit about myself. It explains my goals within college along with some fun facts about myself that I enjoyed to share. I chose the letter because it was something I really enjoyed to write. It's not often you get to open up about yourself to a new teacher so I wanted to express who I was as an individual. This letter allowed me to explore myself and explain my true qualities coming into the semester.

Literacy Map:

The literacy map is a visual indication of my favorite things. The strike zone is represented by the home plate and everything within the strike zone are the things I enjoy most. Objects out of the strike zone are things that I do not like as much. I use a guide to the left of the visual to represent a list from my favorite things to my least favorite things on the map. This map was chosen because I do enjoy to show an artistic side every once in a while. I was able to dive into my creative side with this assignment.

Anansi Boys Responses:

The Anansi Boys responses express my point of view for all the chapters in the book. They explain what happened, and maybe why it happened. I believe these responses allowed me to focus more on the story knowing I would have to reflect on each chapter. I enjoyed reviewing the chapters and reviewing what I recently read. With the responses, I could cover main ideas from the story.

Personal Coat of Arms:

The personal coat of arms expresses what I would have created if I were to give my family name a coat of arms. The image shows pictures such as the Bruins logo, a polish war logo, and New England because I believe they resemble a part of my family. Everything was chosen because it (in one way or another) pertained to my family. I believe the design dives into my family and shows how I see them. I was able to explore my family in all ways of life from my mom's side to my father's side.

Tarnishing the Family Crest:

This assignment focuses on a specific family member that the rest of the family views as odd or weird. I talk about this person's habits and qualities that make them unique within the family. This assignment was chosen because I believe everyone can relate to having one of these family members. I was able to compare my strange family member with others within my class to understand how my situation is not really rare.

Don't Trust Andrew Mayne:

Andrew Mayne is a magician that we watched pull pranks on random people within a shopping mart. He expressed his literacy in magic when he was able to shock so many people with his tricks. The work shows a few type of literacy, both good and bad. I enjoyed this assignment because it was an entertaining video and it amazed me at how he could achieve such amazing tricks. I was able to further advance my knowledge of literacy with this video.

I Remember When:

I remember when is an assignment where we discussed certain topic that happened in our lives or things that occurred in our past. For example, I talked about my favorite show growing up and my past experiences in life. The assignment was a fun way of looking back on a few things in life. I was able to contemplate at how much has changed over the years.

This Term's Terms:

This was the first introduction into literacy and allowed me to understand what literacy really was. With these notes, I began to get ideas as to what I wanted my literacy to be which lead me into the project on literacy. Without these notes, I wouldn't have my literacy goal pushing me to do better in school.

Mix and Mingle:

Mix and Mingle was our first assignment where we found other students in our class that fit the various descriptions on the sheet. Some examples were people that "smiled a lot" or "needed coffee." It was a fun way to get to know some people in the class and relieve any stress about being in college for the first time. I was able to get to know some awesome people from this assignment that I talk to today.

My Other, Other Mother:

My Other, Other Mother is a description of the mother I believe I would have if I were in Coraline's situation. Coraline experiences another mother that is similar, but spookier than her real mother. I try to express how my mother would differ between the real world and the haunted one. I enjoyed this assignment because throughout the entire book I was picturing myself in Coraline's shoes, so now I could actually express my thoughts. This assignment allowed me to relate to Coraline and see how I felt thinking of my mother in a different way.
